Proud - Episode 3

January 2013. Victor is an accomplished architect. He never has much time for his son, Diego, a kid with a strong will who’s in his final year at high school. Serge is back living with Victor and Diego. Together, they form a kind of undefined blended family.
Diego has forged a secret bond with his grandfather, Charles, who still has a strained relationship with Victor. Diego talks to Charles more than he does to his father; Victor finds out that Diego and Charles see each other regularly, he is incensed and cuts Charles out of his life completely.

Victor alienates his son yet further when he refuses to take part in a march to defend draft legislation to introduce same-sex marriage in France, arguing that he’s too busy with his work. Finding himself alone, Victor realizes that he should be alongside Serge and Diego in the demonstration. He resolves to join them. But in a side street on the edge of the march, Victor is set upon by some youths in hoods in a homophobic attack. He wakes up in hospital. Diego can’t help feeling responsibility for the attack.

The ultimate show-down between Charles, Victor and Diego takes place at Charles’s place. Finally, the three generations sit down to talk and try to understand each another. A few days later, the law on same-sex marriage is passed.
